چکیده

Journal of Plant Registrations, Vol. 5, No. 2, May 2011 241 F1024 (Reg. No. GP-272, PI 658654), a sugarbeet (Beta vulgaris L.) germplasm with resistance to sugarbeet root maggot (Tetanops myopaeformis von Röder), was released by the USDA-ARS and the North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station, North Dakota State University, Fargo, ND on 15 Dec. 2009. F1024 will expedite the incorporation of resistance to sugarbeet root maggot into elite populations and the subsequent production of resistant hybrids that are adapted to areas where the root maggot is a relentless pest. One advantage of F1024 over previously released root maggot–resistant germplasm is its improved resistance to Registration of F1024 Sugarbeet Germplasm with Resistance to Sugarbeet Root Maggot

Supercooling point plasticity during cold storage in the freeze-tolerant sugarbeet root maggot Tetanops myopaeformis

The sugarbeet root maggot Tetanops myopaeformis (Röder) overwinters as a freeze-tolerant third-instar larva. Although most larvae are considered to overwinter for only 1 year, some may exhibit prolonged diapause in the field. In the laboratory, they can live for over 5 years using a combination of diapause and post-diapause quiescence. In the present study, the cold survival strategies of these...

Production and Characterization of Antiserum to Aphanomyces cochlioides

Methods for the evaluation of root rot disease in sugarbeet caused by pathogenic fungi historically have relied on visual assessment. In an initial attempt to develop complementary means to detect and quantitate root rot disease caused by Aphanornyces cochlioides, antiserum was produced in rabbits that had been immunized with a cell-wall preparation of this organism. Specificity tests using enz...

Discovery of Fusarium solani as a naturally occurring pathogen of sugarbeet root maggot (Diptera: Ulidiidae) pupae: prevalence and baseline susceptibility.

The fungus Fusarium solani (Mart.) Sacc. was discovered as a native entomopathogen of the sugarbeet root maggot, Tetanops myopaeformis (Röder), in the Red River Valley of North Dakota during the 2004 sugarbeet production season. This is the first report of a native pathogen affecting the pupal stage of T. myopaeformis. Forty-four percent of larvae collected from a field site near St. Thomas (Pe...

Registration of Four Multigerm Sugarbeet Germplasms Resistant to Rhizoctonia Root Rot: FC716, FC717, FC718, and FC719

Sugarbeet (Beta vulgaris L.) germplasms FC716 through FC719 (Reg. no. GP-143 to GP-146, P1 574627 to P1574630) were developed by the USD A-ARS in cooperation with the Beet Sugar Development Foundation. Each of these germplasms was developed from genetically different and distinctive sources. These lines should provide resistance to root-rotting strains (AG-2-2) of Rhizoctonia solani Kilhn and p...
